FAQ

Questions people ask about MyTyne

Straight answers about why we built this, where the data comes from, and how you can get involved.

Why was MyTyne built?+
Dan and Lisa started MyTyne after years of weekends spent searching across Facebook groups, council sites and tourism pages for parks, cafés, walks and family activities. Local information existed — it was just scattered. MyTyne exists to answer every local question in one trusted place.
Where does the data come from?+
MyTyne combines trusted public sources — OpenStreetMap, Companies House, NHS datasets, school data, council open data, event feeds and more — with community submissions and our own research. See the Data & Sources page for the full list.
How often is it updated?+
Different layers update on different schedules. Event feeds and civic alerts refresh frequently; business and place records are improved continuously as sources change and people report corrections.
How can businesses get involved?+
You can claim or improve a listing, share opening hours and photos, and get in touch about visibility options. Start via Contact and choose the business listing topic — paid placement is always labelled and never suppresses organic results.
How do I report incorrect information?+
Use the Contact form with the “Report incorrect information” topic, or email dan@mytyne.co.uk. Tell us the page URL and what needs correcting — we take accuracy seriously.
Is MyTyne only for Newcastle?+
MyTyne is built around the Tyne region — Newcastle, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear and neighbouring places. Coverage will keep expanding neighbourhood by neighbourhood as data and partnerships grow.
Who runs MyTyne?+
MyTyne is built and operated by local people — Dan and Lisa, parents to Abbie and Alfie — through L Creative. It is a long-term project for residents, visitors and the communities around the Tyne.
